MRSA, BOILS & BACTERIAL INFECTIONS

MRSA (methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureus)

Is used to describe the infection that over use and misuse of antibiotics has created. The staphylococcus aureus bacteria has mutated and become resistant to these antibiotics. MRSA causes an estimated 2,000 deaths in UK hospitals each year.

It is not just the staphylococcus aureus bacteria which has become resistant to antibiotics, the bacteria neisseria gonorrhoea, which causes the highly prevalent sexually transmitted disease gonorrhoea, has now become resistant to all but one antibiotic which is of grave concern.

The organism Staphylococcus aureus is found on many individuals skin and usually causes no health issues. However, if it gets inside the body, for instance under the skin or into the lungs, it can cause unpleasant, and in some cases, serious infections such as boils or pneumonia.

Serious complications can develop if the bacteria spreads into other parts of the body like the bones and other organs where it can result in organ failure. This is rare and usually only happens to people with a suppressed immune system or who are frail and poorly in other ways or have undergone surgery.

The first sign of a MRSA infection is a sharp rise in temperature (fever). It can also cause recurrent grape like blistered skin eruptions that are similar to shingles and which can be mistaken as such.

Staphylococcus aureus can be passed on to others through basic contact with any shared household surfaces including towels, bed linen and clothes because the bacteria can reside outside of the body for long periods of time and withstand high temperatures and high salt environments which makes it a particular concern and difficult to eliminate.

PREVENTION

To combat the spread of this infection the answer is to keep very clean. Personal and household cleanliness is of ultimate importance. Wash clothes, towels and bedding daily after use and bleach surfaces especially in the kitchen and bathroom. Do not share drinking vessels or cutlery and do not swig from, bottles or cartons that other will use. Take tea tree oil and aloe vera baths regularly and be particular about cleaning the nasal passages where MRSA resides. Wash hands regularly using a tea tree oil solution or antibacterial soap.

                                                    

It is wise to treat all persons living in the same household as the bacteria can spread so easily. Visitors and contact with others should be avoided during episodes of MRSA and acute bacterial infections.

Individuals can become carriers of MRSA in the same way that they can become a carrier of ordinary Staphylococcus aureus which is by physical contact with the organism. If the organism is on the skin then it can be passed around by physical contact. If the organism is in the nose or is associated with the lungs rather than the skin then it may be passed around by droplets spread from the mouth and nose. Doctors can find out if and where Staphylococcus aureus is located on a patient by taking various samples, sending them to the laboratory and growing the organism. Tests done on any Staphylococcus aureus grown from such specimens can then decide how sensitive the organisms is to antibiotics and if it is a methicillin resistant (MRSA) organism. These tests usually take 2-3 days.

IMPETIGO

This can develop from a Staphylococcus aureus infection and cause itchy red rashes.

Applying crushed garlic on the affected area is one of the simplest and equally effective natural home remedies for Impetigo home treatment. In addition to this, consumption of two or three garlic cloves on a regular basis also aids in the healing process.

Aloe vera gel also helps to cure Impetigo naturally when used regularly four to five times a day.

Olive oil, garlic oil, tea tree oil and grapefruit seed extract are excellent therapeutic home remedies for Impetigo.

Using apple cider vinegar diluted in olive oil for cleaning the affected area helps to remove Impetigo scabs.

Internal Home Treatments, Remedies & Cures for MRSA & Boils

Avoid processed foods especially white flour, sugar, mayonnaise, ice cream, sweets and chocolate as these all feed the bacteria and help it to spread.

One natural treatment alternative to antibiotics is fagara

Allicin occurs naturally in garlic and has proved a vital weapon against MRSA which is resistant to normal antibiotic treatment.

Betulinic acid is a tumour fighting, anti fungal, anti inflammatory and anti bacterial compound found in the bark of white birch trees which can treat MRSA.

1/2 tsp of turmeric powder in warm water 3 times daily.

Quarter of a teaspoon of nutmeg per day.

Eat plenty of acidophilus enriched live yoghurt to boost the immune system. Brine pickles and miso can help too.

Cayenne pepper and nasturtium have both shown good results when treating MRSA.

Chinese rhubarb root can treat boils.

Drink one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, one tablespoon honey mixed in a cup of hot water at least twice a day plus two litres of bottled mineral water per day. If the boil does come to a head where it is going to open continue to drink the vinegar tea and the water. Use hot packs on the boil for 15-20 minutes three times a day.

Slice parsnip and soak in apple cider vinegar for 6 hours then eat small portions each day.

Apple, berries, grapes, mango, orange, papaya, pear, pineapple, tangerine and other such fruits and their juices are highly beneficial.

Urinary infections can be caused by Staphylococcus aureus so drink plenty of unsweetened cranberry juice and eat pineapple as this will stop the bacteria from sticking to the walls of the bladder. Pineapple also rehydrates the body when fever accompanies a bacterial infection.

Drink plenty of bottled mineral water to flush it from the system.

Get out into the sun. Vitamin D deficiency is dramatically on the rise because of the lack of sun exposure on the bare skin. Just 10 to 15 minutes midday sun exposure on the skin will provide the body with all its vitamin D requirements. Wearing sunscreen stops this process and sun through a window will not activate the production of Vitamin D either. Food sources of Vitamin D are goat's milk, oily fish, herring, tuna, wild mushrooms, eggs, cod liver oil

Check the pH of your saliva with pHydrion paper. If your saliva pH is below 7.2 then you are at risk. To increase your oral pH to a normal 7.2 or greater, drink 1 teaspoon of pure sodium bicarbonate salt (bicarbonate of soda) in 2 ounces of distilled water. It is that simple to neutralize the acids that cause tooth, cavities, mouth sores, Human Papilloma Virus (HPV16), bacteria, yeast and oral cancer.

External Home Remedies & Cures for Boils

                                           

There are many natural cures treatments for boils. Different ones work for different people. Try the following external treatments one by one until you find which one works for you;

1. Apply 1 drop of 100% pure tea tree oil directly to the boil and cover with a plaster or telfa (nonstick) pad with tape for large boils) 2-3 times daily. Avoid using plain gauze, it tends to make the boil dry out or scab over. You want to keep it moist. Use a moist compress as hot as you can stand it (i use a tea kettle), apply tea tree and/ lavender oil to maximize effect. Do this several times per day. Once a boil has a white tip or has opened, it should be kept covered and treated liberally with tea tree directly into the wound if possible.

Note on Tea Tree Oil: Has been shown very effective against MRSA, nearly as effective as the best antibiotics. To test for sensitivity to tea tree oil: apply a drop on inner arm and cover with a Band-Aid. Wait 1-2hrs and remove Band-Aid if redness or swelling occurs you should not use tea tree oil.

2. To cure boils and large pimples make a paste out of bicarbonate of soda and water. Pack it on the infected spot and it works to draw the infection. Baking soda combined with some essential oils like lavender and lemon work too but essential oils are not suitable for pregnant women.

3. Mix a paste of oatmeal, add sea salt and apply directly onto the boil and leave overnight.

4. Apply a crushed garlic cloves, fenugreek and red clay poultice.

5. Put some castor oil on a cotton ball and cover the boil with it. Leave overnight.

6. Crack open an egg, empty it and use the white/clear film on the inside of the shell. Place this over the boil and leave it there.

7. A slice of bacon put directly on boil and left overnight draws out the pus.

8. Cut a thin slice from an organic beetroot. On the side that is to lay on the abscess, cut little lines to help release the beet juice. Secured the beet with a wide band aid. Change it twice a day, in the morning and upon going to bed. Should cure the boil within 2/3 days.

9. Cut a tomato in half and heat it (microwave will do). Place it over the boil and leave it there. Hold it in place with a gauze and band-aids, and kept it there until it cooled. Then place the other half of the tomato on the boil and repeat the operation. The boil should open by itself and this method could stop boils recurring in the future.

Tomato paste, sea salt baths & parsley have also shown good results.

WARNING - NEVER SQUEEZE A BOIL!

It can spread the infection very quickly to the surrounding tissue. If you see red spider web like lines around the boil, see a doctor immediately. This can be a sign of the infection spreading into the blood, which is very dangerous.

AFTER MRSA

After a MRSA attack take a small clean glass jar and mix about 2-3ml (think thimble full or less) of KY jelly or equivalent with 1-2 drops of 100% pure Tea Tree oil. Cap jar and shake to mix completely. Take a cotton bud and dip it in the solution and apply it to the inside of your nostrils, one clean swab full per nostril (it will sting a bit at first but you'll get used to it fast). Once you have it in both nostrils pinch your nose closed and squish your nose around to spread it out inside your nose. Do this twice a day religiously until 10 days after you are boil free. Then do it 2-3 times per week for a month. This step is super important because MRSA will usually hang on in your nose even after all infection appears gone just to rear its ugly head again when conditions are right.
